Theater Arts Schedule Fall 2015

The Las Positas Theater program is in an exciting stage of production growth. Our anticipated seasons run anywhere between 3-5 productions annually. Additionally, we have a strong children’s theater touring program and 2 student directed one-act festival events. We house our program in a beautiful $40mil state of the art performance facility with three theaters (a 450-seat proscenium, a black box, and a newly renovated out-door amphitheater with seating capacity for over 1,000),a costume shop, scene shop, and dance studio.

Auditions

Las Positas College will be hosting auditions for our upcoming Fall shows: Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter & The Importance of Being Earnest

Auditions Dates: August 26 or 27 6:30-9:30PM
Callbacks: August 29 10:00-2:00pm
Location: Las Positas College Black Box Theater, Livermore
Please memorize a 1 min. comedic AND 1 min. dramatic monologue and share them both with us!

Show #1: Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter Directed By Wendy Wisely
Described as an “edgy and poignant drama,” Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter explores the complexities of a soldier carrying physical and emotional wounds of war, trying to return to society.
Rehearsals: Mon-Thu 7:00-10:00pm August 31- October 15
Performance Dates: October 16-25 (Weekends only)

Show #2: The Importance of Being Earnest Directed By Titian Lish
Two young men, using the pseudonym Earnest to lead double lives, are caught in a case of mistaken identity when they both fall in love… with women who love their alter-egos. 
Rehearsals: Mon-Thu 7:00-10:00pm October 6-December 3 
Performance Dates: December 4-13 (Weekends only)

Cast members will be required to sign up for THEA 47A (3 units) for participation in the play. Limited scholarships available for demonstrated need.

 

2015-2016 Season of Plays

Jenny Sutter October 16-24, 2015
Welcome Home Jenny Sutter tells the story of returning a Iraq Veteran, struggling to come to terms with her life in the aftermath of war. This beautiful and heart wrenching story explores what it means to lose, and find, a part of ourselves.
Earnest
December 4-12, 2016

Two young gents have taken to bending the truth in order to put some excitement into their lives. Worthing has invented a brother, Earnest, whom he uses as an excuse to leave his dull life behind to visit Gwendolyn. Montcrieff decides to take the name Earnest when visiting Worthing's young and beautiful ward, Cecily. Things start to go awry when they end up together in the country and their deceptions are discovered.

March 4-10, 2016
In roaring twenties Chicago, Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap...until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess" Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune and acquittal.
Raisin
May 6-14, 2016
The Youngers are a poor African-American family living on the South Side of Chicago. An opportunity to escape from poverty comes in the form of a $10,000 life insurance check that the matriarch of the family (Lena Younger or Mama) receives upon her husband's death.
