Color Contrast
- If you highlight a portion of your text with color, make sure that all information is available in a non-color format. For example, do not ask a user to "Select an item from the list of green links." Instead, present information so it is available through other means such as location on the page, title of the section, or comprehensive link context. Link Colors Examples
- Ensure that foreground and background color combinations provide sufficient contrast when viewed by someone having color deficits or when viewed on a black and white screen. Color Contrast Examples
- If you use a background graphic, make sure that the user is still able to read all the text on the page. Avoid busy or very colorful background graphics unless you can supply sufficient color contrast with the text color. Background Graphics Examples
- Check your own pages for color contrast by going to Vischeck.com. Just copy and paste the URL to your webpage into the text box and click "Run Vischeck!" When it has finished uploading, click on the link at the top of the page that says "Deuteranope simulation" to see what your webpage will look like to someone who is colorblind.
