Student Education Plan (SEP)

By the second semester of attendance and competition, the student athlete shall have on file a Student Education Plan (SEP).  SEPs are strongly recommended for all LPC students.  SEPs are required for student athletes.  Each student athlete must meet with a counselor to select courses for study based upon the student's skills, interests, career, degree, or university transfer goals.

  1. The student athlete will meet with a counselor to develop and/or refine the SEP:
    1. during the first semester of play,
    2. before the second semester of play, and
    3. during the second semester of play.

Seasons of Eligibility

Student athletes may compete in only 2 seasons of competition per sport.  Competition in a scheduled game, meet or match (except scrimmages) in any institution above high school level during a sports season shall be recorded as one season’s competition in that sport (Bylaw 1.5).

2 seasons of competition per sport at the Community College level count towards the 4 seasons of competition per sport allowed by NCAA.  If you plan to transfer and compete at an NCAA college you may need to register with the NCAA clearinghouse and meet specific transfer requirements.

Second Year Eligibility

To be eligible for the second season of sport, the student athlete must complete and pass 24 semester units prior to the beginning of the semester of the second season of sport (COA Bylaw 1.6).

Example 1: A student athlete competes in Soccer in Fall 2004, she must maintain and pass a minimum of 12 units during the Fall 2004 semester, and then maintain and pass a minimum of 12 units during the Spring 2005 semester, for a total of 24 units completed and passed by the beginning of Fall 2005 semester, to be eligible to play for her second year.

Example 2: A student athlete competes in Cross Country in the Fall 2004, he must maintain and pass a minimum of 12 units during the Fall 2004 semester. He then enrolls in 12 units during the Spring 2005, but only successfully passes 9 of the 12 units.  He will have to enroll in Summer Session 2005 and pass a minimum of 3 units for a total of 24 units completed and passed by the beginning of the Fall 2005 semester, to be eligible to play for his second year.

  1. Units from a course repeated to raise a grade of “D” or better shall not be counted to satisfy the second season of sport eligibility rule.
  2. Of the 24 semester units to be completed, 18 units shall be in course work counting toward the associate degree, remediation, transfer and/or certificate as defined by the LPC College Catalog, and are consistent with the student athletes’ SEP.
