Club Sport Eligibility

Eligibility for Club Sports varies for each sport, because different sports compete under the eligibility criteria of specific sport associations.  See the specific eligibility for your sport.

Ultimate Team:

  1. The Ultimate Club Sport team must field a team of 7 Ultimate Club Sport Athletes (UCSA) in order to represent LPC in any game, competition, or event.
  2. Ultimate Club Sport Athlete (UCSA) is defined as an athlete that meets the following eligibility criteria: must be continuously and actively enrolled and attending class in a minimum of 6 units at Las Positas College during the season of sport.  Such eligibility shall be required for all competitions in which students represent LPC.
  3. The Ultimate team may allow non-UCSA players to travel along with the team, but LPC will not be responsible for these players. Any costs, expenses, or actions of these non-UCSA players is the sole responsibility of the individual players.
  4. Non-UCSA players may play along side UCSA players during “open” events.  This will allow less experienced players to learn from their more skilled team players, and allow the team to play/advance during 2 day events.
  5. All Ultimate players (both UCSA and non-UCSA) must register for the appropriate PE class for their sport during the semester of sport.
    1. PE 1UF or 2UF – Ultimate Frisbee
  6. LPC Ultimate team plays in events sponsored by the Ultimate Players Association (UPA). The Ultimate Players Association (UPA) is a player run not-for-profit organization based in Boulder, Colorado, USA. Founded in 1979, the UPA is among the first flying disc sport organizations in the world, and one of the largest, with over 15,600 members and hundreds of volunteers.  The UPA serves as the governing body of the sport of Ultimate in the US.
  7. In order to play in UPA sanctioned events, each team member must be a UPA individual member ($20/college member for Jan 1- Dec 31).
  8. UPA sponsors both “open” and “college” competitions. The college season opens in late January and extends to College Nationals at the end of May.  In order to compete in College Nationals a student must:
    • be enrolled for two semesters including Spring semester
    • be continuously and actively enrolled and attending class in a minimum of 6 units at Las Positas College during the season of sport; and
    • have less than 5 years experience.
    • It is the LPC Coach’s responsibility to insure that only eligible players compete during “college” competitions.
    • Tournaments are usually two day events. Saturday play consists of "pool play" which determines seeding for the elimination rounds on Sunday (quarters, semifinals, finals). Over the course of a weekend a team plays as many as eight games. This grueling format makes it advantageous to carry a roster of 20 to 24 players, though only seven play at one time.

Bowling Team

  1. In order to be eligible, a Bowling Team Club Sport athlete must be continuously and actively enrolled and attending class in a minimum of 12 units at Las Positas College during the season of sport.  Such eligibility shall be required for all competitions in which students represent LPC.
  2. The Bowling team must field a team of 5 eligible players in order to represent LPC in any game, competition, or event.
  3. The LPC Bowling team competes in events sponsored by the College Bowling USA (CBUSA). CBUSA is funded by the American Bowling Congress and the Women’s International Bowling Congress. CBUSA is recognized by both the NCAA and the NJCAA as the sport’s national intercollegiate governing body.
  4. In order to play in CBUSA sanctioned events, the LPC Bowling Team must be a CBUSA Intercollegiate Team member and each individual athlete must be a student-athlete member.  Intercollegiate team membership is $200.00 for a roster of up to 8 athletes.  For a team roster of more than 8 athletes, it will be an additional $20.00 per athlete. CBUSA will then pay individual fees and ABC/WIBC/YABA national fees out of the $200.00 team fee.
  5. CBUSA Eligibility criteria:
    1. Athlete must be continuously and actively enrolled and attending class in a minimum of 12 units at Las Positas College during the season of sport.
    2. Amateur status
    3. Overall GPA > 2.0
    4. To be eligible for the second season of sport, the student athlete must complete and pass 24 semester units prior to the beginning of the semester of the second season of sport
  6. Student athletes may compete in only 2 seasons of competition per sport.  Rolling a ball in any sanctioned intercollegiate shall be recorded as one season’s competition in that sport.
  7. 2 seasons of competition per sport at the Community College level count towards the 4 seasons of competition per sport allowed by NCAA.  If you plan to transfer and compete at an NCAA college you may need to register with the NCAA clearinghouse and meet specific transfer requirements.
  8. All Bowling Team players must register for the appropriate PE class for their sport during the semester of sport.
    1. PE 1BL or 2BL – Bowling

Handball Team

  1. The Handball team must field a team of 5 eligible players (meeting 1 above) in order to represent LPC in any game, competition, or event.
  2. The LPC Handball team competes in events sponsored by the United States Handball Association (USHA), the National Governing Body for the sport of handball. The USHA is a non-profit corporation, dedicated to the growth and development of the sport for all age levels. The USHA publishes Handball Magazine, the game's only national publication. As the governing body, the USHA is responsible for administering and sanctioning over 100 tournaments per year, including novice, collegiate, and pro events.
    1. In order to play in USHA sanctioned events, each team member must be a USHA individual member ($10/college member less than 22 years of age)
  3. To compete in “open” USHA sanctioned events, the club sport athlete for Handball must be continuously and actively enrolled and attending class in a minimum of 6 units at Las Positas College during the season of sport.
  4. To compete in “collegiate” USHA sanctioned events, the club sport athlete for Handball must be continuously and actively enrolled and attending class in a minimum of 12 units at Las Positas College during the season of sport.
