Tips for Adding a Class

We understand that many of our classes fill quickly and are difficult to get into.  Below are tips and rules from our biology faculty to improve your chances of getting into an already full class.

Procedure and tips for trying to add into a full class

  1. Register as early as you are allowed.
  2. Instructors follow the district policy to add students with the highest priority numbers first.  Only the last 4 digits of the six digit priority number are considered; these include the number of units completed at Las Positas or Chabot in the prior term, followed by a random check digit.  New students and high school students will not have a priority number for their initial semester of enrollment.

Attend the first day of class with a print-out of your student priority number and a form of identification.  The student priority number can be printed from ClassWeb or given to you from Admissions and Records. No hand written numbers will be accepted.
  3. For classes with a lab, most instructors will add students within the first 10 minutes of the first class meeting, even if that is a lab session, so arrive on time.  If you are enrolled, but come to late to class, you may be dropped immediately to make room for other students.
  4. Bring the required books and lab manual, but keep the receipt and wrapping intact in case you are not added.
  5. No food or drink is permitted in the labs.  Be sure to wear closed-toed and close-heeled shoes.
  6. Registration is often dynamic with students dropping the class periodically before the semester starts.  Frequently check on-line for these openings, especially the day after Drop for Non-payment Deadline has passes.  However, if you miss the first class or lab, yet were able to add on-line, an instructor may still not allow you to continue in the class.
  7. You cannot continue in the class without being enrolled.  Campus policy does not allow students to audit biology classes
