Room 1806 is made available for currently-enrolled Biology students to have supervised access to living specimens, slides, models, equipment, supplies, learning materials, and other resources for practical exam review, lab projects, lab make-ups, and other activities as determined by individual faculty. Students may also work on long-term lab projects.
The schedule of room availability is determined each semester, and is based on the ability of faculty to oversee the workroom. Student are held to specific rules regarding safety and conduct associated with the use of this room, as discussed in class. All students using 1806 will sign in using a STARS terminal.
Rules and Regulations for 1806
- The room may only be used when a participating instructor is present in 1805,1806, 1807 or 1810. See the schedule for times. You may not work in this room unless there is a participating instructor. You must log in using the STARS computer terminal. Your instructor will explain how to do this.
- If a participating instructor informs you that he or she will be leaving in a few minutes, please clean up your materials as requested and leave. Plan ahead by consulting the matrix.
- The faculty who have agreed to serve as participating instructors are doing you a favor, so please respect them and their classes. If possible, enter directly into 1806. If you must come in through a laboratory (Rooms 1805, 1807, or 1810), open and close the door quietly and walk along the back and side of the lab. Wait until the class is doing laboratory work before entering. Under no circumstances should you walk in front of the instructor while he or she is lecturing.
- 1806 is not a place to party with your friends. Only biology and chemistry students working on legitimate projects are allowed to work in 1806.
- Do not prop open the door to 1806.
- No food or drinks (including bottled water) may be consumed in 1806; it is a lab.
- Wear shoes with closed toes and heels. You will be asked to leave if you do not have the correct footwear.
- Please do not disturb the instruments belonging to chemistry. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON THE NMR.
- Before you leave, please clean up your mess. Put away slides and/or specimens into the appropriate trays and bins. Clean, wash, turn off and/or correctly store all materials and equipment you have used. Clean off the tabletops. It is not the job of the lab technicians to clean up after you. (Mom definitely does not work here).
- The printer is for faculty and staff use only.
- It is not the job of the lab technicians to solve your problems for you. Please allow them to do their own work.
