Curriculum Notes
3/10 LPC Curriculum Updates:
(1) Health is breaking into 3 new rubrics:
- Health (HLTH) 1, 2, 3
- Health Science (HSCI) 50, 51A, 51B, 52, 55, 57
- Health Science will be the "allied health" courses.
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS) 61, 70A, 70B, 81, 91 (new)
- EMS will also have 8 new courses (50-58) for the paramedic program.
- EMS will also have 8 new courses (50-58) for the paramedic program.
(2) ART is breaking into 2 new rubrics as follows:
- Art History (ARHS) 1, 4, 5
- Art (ARTS) 2AB, 3ABCD, 7ABCD, 10, 11, 12ABCD, 13ABCD
(3) AA in Environmental Studies has been sent to the State - will be in catalog as pending.
(4) AA in Biology with emphasis in Allied Health sent to State - will be in catalog as pending.
3/09 2008-09 Catalog Error/Interior Design Requirements. INTD 51 and 61 are NOT required but are elective options.
2/09 Medical Assistant Program Course Number Change. BUSN 76 will change to BSUN 77- Financial and Insurance Procedures for Medical Offices. 2008-09 Medical Assistant Program Flyer.
2/09 English 1A Not Recommended in Summer for ESL 25 Students Transitioning to English 1A. Post ESL 25 course recomendations are made on an individual basis.
2/09 Students May Now Earn Certificates of Achievement for IGETC and CSU-GE Completion. When completing a full GE certification, please offer the students this option. The only extra step is to complete a petition to graduate. Benefits include:
- A tangible record of completion of a goal (benefits the student and the college);
- TRANSCRIPT NOTATION that IGETC or CSU-GE have been completed;
- Option to participate in graduation ceremonies.
1/09 LPC Associate Degree Program-Based GE (and dates effective):
- Automotive Technology: Math 71 -- Fall 2007
- Chemistry: Option 1: Bio. 31 or Ecol. 10 OR Option 2: CS 1 -- Fall 2008
- Fire Service Technology: Speech 1 -- Fall 2008
- Viticulture: BOTN 1 -- Fall 2008
- AS/Business: Speech 10 or 11 -- Fall 2008
10/08 Chabot Biology 2A & 2B Sequence Replaced with Biology 2, 6, and 8.
- Scheduling of the new Biology sequences:
- Spring 09: 2 sections of Bio 2A and 2 sections of Bio 2B
- (Spring 09 is the last time Bio 2A will be offered)
- Fall 09: One section of Bio 2B
- (Fall 09 is the last time 2B will be offered)
- (Fall 09 is the last time 2B will be offered)
- Course Equivalencies:
- Bio 6 = part of Bio 2B (botany and ecology)
- Fall 09: 2 sections
- Spring 10: 1-2 sections
- Bio 4 = the rest of Bio 2B (zoology) and part of Bio 2A (evolution and population genetics)
- Spring 10: 2 sections
- Bio 2 = most of Bio 2A (molecular and cellular biology)
- Spring 10: 1 section
- Prerequisite information about the above classes:
- Biol 2: Prerequisite: Biology 4 or 6 and Chemistry 1A or equivalent (with a grade of C or higher). Strongly recommended: eligibility for English 1A.
- Biol 4 and 6: Prerequisite: Mathematics 55 or equivalent (with a grade of C or higher). Strongly recommended: eligibility for English 1A.
Students who have already completed BIOL 2A should enroll in Bio. 2B in 2009. After fall 2009, they will have to complete both Bio 4 and 6 in lieu of 2B. There isn't an exact alignment between old and new courses. A student who took Bio 2A only would have to complete both Bio 4 and Bio 6 in either order.
1/07 LPC Does Not Accept IB Exams (Alvarado) Most (if not all) of the CSUs do. (See CSU section for details.)
9/06 Veteran's Evaluations (per Todd Steffan) If you have a vet going to transfer to a CSU or UC when you are doing their VA Eval. form, please used the attached grid to include these units (if any) on your VA Evaluations. You will need to put them on line 1 of the VA eval., and then add those to line 2. All prior credits which fulfills GE/major requirements for current objective. (INCLUDE all applicable units from LPC, all prior credits and from line 1.) Also, attach any GE and major (ASSIST) printouts that apply to the students degree goals. If you have any questions, please ask.
5/06 ECD Reciprocity Course Agreement Effective Fall 2006 (Andrea Alvardo) LPC's and Chabot's ECD departments have entered into a reciprocity agreement with Merritt and Ohlone Colleges for 5 of their courses. When a student takes a course at one of the other colleges, the student will not need to fill out a yellow Course Substitution form. Official transcripts are needed. Courses must be passed with a "C" or better.
8/8/05 Upper Division Course OK for AS Degree American Cultures Requirement (per John Armstrong). It’s OK to use Socio. 120: Ethnic and Race Relations [Analyzes relations among various racial, religious, nationality, and gender groups as they interact with racism, ethnocentrism, and class in the United States and the world. 3 units] from Sac. State (upper division class) to satisfy our American Cultures requirement for an AS degree in Fire Science (the student has a BA in Psych. from Sac. State).
8/05 History 14/American Institutions Requirement (per Andrea Alvarado). If a student took History 14 prior to it’s removal from the American Institutions Requirement, but has yet to complete the other course for AI, it is recommended that they take Political Science 7 to complete the requirement.
