About the Program
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Studies introduces students to the study of LGBTQ people, including activism, politics, history, and art that is the foundation of queer studies. Th e program supports students earning degrees in psychology, child development, education, criminal justice, human services, all health occupations, business and hospitality.
About the Degree
The Associate in Arts in Social Justice Studies: LGBTQ Studies for Transfer is designed
for prospective California State University
(CSU) transfer students who are preparing for careers in the field of Social Justice
Studies: LGBTQ Studies. Completion of the Social Justice Studies: LGBTQ Studies Transfer
degree will provide a streamlined pathway for transfer to a CSU campus with a Social
Justice Studies: LGBTQ Studies or similar major.
Examples of CSU majors include American Studies, Gender Studies, Liberal Studies w/ option in Interdisciplinary Studies in Culture & Society, Sociology - Concentration in Race, Class, and Gender, Sociology with Inequalities and Diversity option, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Women's Studies. Students should consult with a counselor to determine whether or not this degree is the best option for their transfer goals. General education requirements should be selected carefully based on the intended transfer institution; please see a counselor for details if you are pursuing transfer to the UC system.
Program Outcomes
- Upon completion of the AA-T in Social Justice Studies: LGBTQ Studies, students will able to discuss the social, economic, political, intellectual and cultural contributions of LGBTQ+ people of the past and present.
- Upon completion of the AA-T in Social Justice Studies: LGBTQ Studies, students will be able to discuss how sexual identity and gender identity combine with nationality, race and ethnicity, religion, social class, and physical ability to shape the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals.
- Upon completion of the AA-T in Social Justice Studies: LGBTQ Studies, students will be able to synthesize the relationships between epistemological frameworks used in LGBTQ+ studies and those used in other areas (i.e. Queer Theory, Feminist Theory, and Critical Theory).
- Upon completion of the AA-T in Social Justice Studies: LGBTQ Studies, students will be able to compare and contrast the key methodologies utilized in LGBTQ+ studies.
