About the Program

The Las Positas College Music Program offers a nurturing and personalized educational environment for all students who wish to pursue their passions in performance, composition, theory, music business, music technology, or music education. The program is designed to appeal to a broad range of incoming students, from relative beginners to experienced artists that wish to ultimately move into music as a profession. Students are encouraged to consult music faculty and their counselor for guidance when planning their transfer pathways to a four-year institution in this major.

About the Certificate

The Certificate of Achievement in Commercial Music: Scoring for Film and Multimedia program is designed for students who wish to learn or enhance their skills in the art of composition for film or other visual media, and become prepared for a career in music business. Students will gain a well-rounded knowledge of essential areas such as composition, music technology, music theory, keyboard skills, film music history, and entrepreneurship.

Film Composer, ADR, Production sound mixer, Sound Designer, Music Editor, Music Supervisor, Copyist, Orchestrator, Composer’s Assistant, Video Game Music Composer, Synth/MIDI Programmer.

Program Outcomes

• Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Commercial Music: Scoring for Film and Multimedia, students are able to conceptualize, compose, and produce musical cues for visual media.
• Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Commercial Music: Scoring for Film and Multimedia, students are able to communicate and collaborate with a director, conduct an effective spotting session, and revise cues according to feedback.
• Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Commercial Music: Scoring for Film and Multimedia, students are able to heighten the action on screen using themes, syntactic matching, orchestration and timbral changes.
