Adjunct Faculty
Dr. Marc Costantino
Marc Costantino has been an Adjunct Instructor of Physics at Las Positas College since 1998. He also is an experimental physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, working since 1974 on a variety of research problems involving matter at extreme pressures and temperatures. Among them are the mechanical properties of geologic materials, properties of explosives and propellants, CARS spectroscopy of nitromethane, and fluid-fluid phase equilibrium in the water-nitrogen system. His recent work involves the physics, chemistry, and engineering of a hypersonic wind tunnel. Dr. Costantino has served as a Group Leader, as the Operations Manager for the Chemistry and Materials Science Directorate, and as the Technical Business and Operations Manager for the Environmental Programs Directorate.
Dr. Costantino received a B.S in Physics in 1967 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Ph.D. in Solid State Physics and Materials Science in 1972 from Princeton University. He was on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974, and retired in 2000 as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Case-Western Reserve University. Dr. Costantino married Mary Elizabeth Lewis in 1966. They have three children, Esther, David, and Mary Marcelle.
