Types of facilities utilizing health information technology professionals include those providing inpatient care, outpatient centers, physician offices, long-term and skilled nursing facilitates, registries, consulting agencies, vendors and insurance or billing companies.
Potential positions for Medical Record Clerk Certificates:
- Medical record clerk I is an entry level position to be employed as a file clerk, assembly clerk, discharge census, copy/scan clerk, ER/Outpatient processing, reception, admitting, and registration
- Medical record clerk II a follow on position after working as a Medical record clerk I to be employed as an analysis clerk, abstracting data, physician incomplete records liaison, transcription clerk, birth registry, release of information support clerk
Potential positions for Mecial Record Coding Certificate:
- Medical Records Coder - Outpatient/ancillary coding, physician office coding, physician office billing, pre review organizations, and health maintenance organizations
Potential positions for Health Communication & Information Technology A.S. Degree:
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Coding professional
- Release of information technician or coordinator
