Most Las Positas College Library audiovisual materials have not been assigned
a Library of Congress call number. Audiovisual materials are assigned a call
number based on their format and the order in which they were added to the
collection.
Categories include cassettes, records, compact discs, maps, charts, equipment,
kits, microfilm, video, pictures, realia, model slides, prints, DVD, and CD-ROM.
Since the two libraries share the catalog, some of these categories may be
found in one library and not the other. Some of the most common examples of
the letter designations for the types of material are:
CD - Compact Disc Sound Recording
KS - Combines materials such as slides, videorecordings, etc.
with another type of media such as audiocassette. LPC Library has few kits.
MV - Videorecording - VHS tape
SL - Slides
DVD - DVDs in the Las Positas College Library audiovisual
collection are cataloged with Library of Congress call numbers. If you find
a DVD in the catalog, it will have a LC call number but will be described as
a [videorecording] or [DVD] in the hitlist and as a videodisc in the Item Record.
Its location will be listed Audiovisual Collection. However, the jewel cases
are in call number order in a special location in the stacks. You must take
the jewel case to the check-out desk to get the DVD when you wish to check
one out.
Some of the more frequently used location designations within the Las Positas and Chabot libraries that you may see in the Location column in the Holdings section at the bottom of the catalog record are:
Atlas Table - Large reference atlases near Reference
AV - Audiovisuals at Las Positas
