LPC Library Catalog Information

Library Information

The following paragraphs offer information about LPC Library catalog and interpreting the information contained therein. Click on About the Library for more information on LPC Library.

iLink Login Information

If you wish to place a hold on library materials at LPC or Chabot or check your library records, you must have a college ID card which you have taken to the Library Check-out desk to be activated or renewed. Then you may log in to the catalog where login information is requested. You will be asked to enter your LPC user ID and PIN.

Your LPC user ID is the "W" number which was issued to you by the College. You can find your "W" number on CLASS Web.*

Your PIN consists of:

  • the first two letters of your first name
  • the first two letters of your last name
  • the last two numbers of your "W" number.
  • example: John Smith with the W number W11122233 would use the PIN josm33

Your pin is not the same pin that is used for LPC distance education (Blackboard). If you have any trouble logging in, please ask for help at the Check-Out Desk or call them at 925.424.1151.

If you log into the catalog on a public computer, don't forget to log out when you leave the catalog to protect access to your ID and Pin number.

AV Call Numbers

Most Las Positas College Library audiovisual materials have not been assigned a Library of Congress call number. Audiovisual materials are assigned a call number based on their format and the order in which they were added to the collection.

Categories include cassettes, records, compact discs, maps, charts, equipment, kits, microfilm, video, pictures, realia, model slides, prints, DVD, and CD-ROM. Since the two libraries share the catalog, some of these categories may be found in one library and not the other. Some of the most common examples of the letter designations for the types of material are:

CD - Compact Disc Sound Recording

KS - Combines materials such as slides, videorecordings, etc. with another type of media such as audiocassette. LPC Library has few kits.

MV - Videorecording - VHS tape

SL - Slides

DVD - DVDs in the Las Positas College Library audiovisual collection are cataloged with Library of Congress call numbers. If you find a DVD in the catalog, it will have a LC call number but will be described as a [videorecording] or [DVD] in the hitlist and as a videodisc in the Item Record. Its location will be listed Audiovisual Collection. However, the jewel cases are in call number order in a special location in the stacks. You must take the jewel case to the check-out desk to get the DVD when you wish to check one out.
