Award Winners for Fiction

Pulitzer Prize: Awarded for distinguished fiction by an American author (titles from 1918 to the present)

National Book Award: Recognizes the best of American literature, "raising the cultural appreciation of great writing in the country while advancing the careers of both established and emerging writers." (titles from 1950 to the present)

National Book Critics Circle Award: Awarded for the finest books and reviews published in English. The National Book Critics Circle is a nonprofit organization consisting of nearly 700 active book reviewers.

Newberry Medal and Honor Books: Awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

PEN/FaulknerAward: "Honors the best published works of fiction by American citizens." The award was founded by members of the international writers’ organization, PEN.

Man Booker Prize: The UK's top literary prize presented to the best full-length novel written in English by a citizen of the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland

Edgar Award: Awarded for the best mystery fiction and nonfiction

Hugo Award (Science Fiction Achievement Award): Given by the World Science Fiction Society for the best science fiction or fantasy works

Nebula Award: Awarded by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) for the best science fiction or fantasy works published in the United States during the two previous years
