Hello Prospective Mathematics Students,

To assist you in selecting a section of your chosen course, this page contains important information about the technology requirements for your course.

  • All Pre-Algebra (107), Elementary Algebra (65, 65A, 65B) and Intermediate Algebra (55, 55A, 55B) instructors have the option of requiring that students use a software called MyMathLab™ to complete assignments on-line.  The cost associated with this software varies. In classes using this software, purchase of a hardbound textbook may be optional. Consult with your instructor before buying a textbook for your course.   • SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT for students enrolling in Math 65, 65A, 65B or Math 55, 55A or 55B: If you already have an access code for Beginning and Elementary Algebra by Rockswold & Kreiger, 2nd edition, you are eligible for a free upgrade to the 3rd edition of this textbook. Please click for more information about MyMathLab™ and associated costs.
  • All Finite Mathematics (33), College Algebra (45), Pre-Calculus (20), Calculus I (1) and Calculus II (2) instructors have the option of requiring that students use a software called Enhanced Web Assign™ to complete assignments on-line.
  • All Statistics (42, 44) instructors have the option of requiring that students use a software called Connect Statistics™ to complete assignments on-line.  
  • Intermediate Algebra, Trigonometry, Statistics, Pre-Calculus and Calculus I and II instructors also have the option of requiring that students purchase and use a graphing calculator (e.g., TI-84™) in their course. A graphing calculator is required for Finite Mathematics.

About MyMathLab™

MyMathLab™ is a mathematical software that is keyed to the textbooks used in Math 107, Math 65 and Math 55.  For Math 107, the textbook is: Prealgebra by Elayn Martin-Gay, 6th edition, Pearson/Addison-Wesley, 2011. For Math 65, the textbook is (effective Fall 2012):  Beginning and Intermediate Algebra by Rockswold and Krieger, 3rd edition, Pearson/Addison-Wesley, 2012, and for Math 55, the textbook is Beginning and Intermediate Algebra by Rockswold and Krieger, 2nd edition, Pearson/Addison-Wesley, 2009.

To access the many features of MyMathLab™ you must have an access code and you must be given a course ID by your instructor.

If you already have an access code for Beginning and Intermediate Algebra by Rockswold and Krieger, 2nd edition, you can uprade your access code to the third edition at no charge. Click here to find out how.

If you do not have an access code, there are several ways for you to purchase one.

  • If the textbook is purchased new at the LPC bookstore, it will come bundled with an access code at no additional charge. 

  • If the textbook is purchased used or from another source, you may go the MyLab™ website and purchase an access code on-line.  The cost is approximately $75 (The exact cost is unknown at this time.).
    • PLEASE NOTE: You must have a course ID to purchase an access code. You can obtain a course ID from your instructor.

You do not need to purchase a textbook to purchase MyMathLab™. In many courses, the purchase of a hardbound textbook is optional.

Purchasing an access code for MyMathLab™ gives you access to the complete textbook on-line (e-book) with hyperlinks to tutorials, homework sets that contain most of the exercises found in the textbook, on-line tutorials, and other helpful features. Students also have the capability of printing as many pages of the textbook from the e-book as they desire, one page at a time. Therefore some students may choose to purchase only MyMathLab™ and not purchase a textbook.
