Hawks stun No. 1 CCSF 78-75
LPC scored 11 of the game's final 13 points Wednesday night to record the biggest upset of the season, defeating the state's No. 1-ranked team, City College of San Francisco, in a dramatic Coast Conference North Division game in Livermore.
The Hawks, who evened their record at 12-12 and 3-3 in the conference, entered as prohibitive underdogs against the Rams. CCSF entered with a 21-2 record, 5-0 in conference play, a 12-game winning streak, and a No. 1 Northern California ranking to go along with their No. 1 state ranking.
LPC trailed 73-67 with 3:47 remaining before Brandon Tatum hit a free throw, and Dominic Roberson nailed a three-pointer. Roberson tied the game at 73-73 with two free throws with 1:47 left.
Jeff Ford put the Hawks up by two, and Joe Faumuina made a free throw for a 76-73 LPC advantage with 37.9 seconds left. CCSF pulled within one, but Roberson made one of two foul shots at 18.9, making the score 77-75.
The Rams missed on the other end, and Ford, who was fouled, sank a free throw with 7.3 seconds left for a 78-75 lead. CCSF missed a desperation three-point attempt at the buzzer, giving the Hawks the victory.
Ford led five LPC players in double figures with 19 points. Roberson came off the bench to add 14, Smith scored 13, and Brandon Tatum and D'Juan Estis had 10 each.
