A presentation of our Student Learning Outcomes, by the SLO Committee chairs. There will also be some feedback from the accrediting body in this regard
A brief facilities update, issues and trends as our campus grows before our eyes.
We have received notification of our Accreditation Visitation Dates: October 19 - 22, 2009. We're working feverishly to make sure we have our report done and submitted to the accrediting body in time for their review.
We did pass our State Budget, and Dr. Pollard is pleased to share that, based on the fiscal guidelines and the processes used by our district and college, LPC is in a good position as it relates to the budget. The most significant changes we've seen in the various drafts of the budget have been the reduction or elimination of the COLA. Fortunately, those who have worked on the budget here at the District had not included that in our projections. We're doing very well, and in the next couple weeks, you'll be receiving information regarding our bugeting process for the next fiscal year, now that we have some guidelines for that process.
Upcoming events on the college campus:
February 27th: Ishmael Reed, as a part of the Campus Change Network, and he will be speaking about his perspectives, our culture and world right now
Start of Umoja project, A Brotherhood of One, which will have the first meeting on March 5, 2009 at 5:30pm in the Student Center.
Workshop on inclusiveness in the curriculum: March 13, 8:30 am to 4 pm in 2450. We have a team of faculty and staff from Maricopa Community College District coming up to work with us.
Yack 'N' Sak will be on Tuesday, March 31 at noon in the Staff Lounge. Please bring your lunch and we'll discuss issues that you think are important in the college community.
Earlier, faculty and staff who've joined Dr. Pollard on Strategic Horizons Team returned from Phonenix, AZ, where they focused on tangible resources, specifically sustainably. As a result, at the April Town Meeting, the team will share feedback and insights with you from that experience and soliciting active participation in actions to help future direction of LPC.
College Council representatives will be sharing Institutional Principles. They have tentatively drafted a Vision Statement and have asked you to review the statement with proposed strategic goals and offer feedback. They would like to adopt those principles and take them to the May Board Meeting and take place starting Fall 2009.
Those who live in Pleasanton and Livermore - and hopefully in Dublin - should see the inaugural issue of our Community Newsletter. It will be distributed in the Tri-Valley are in the next week. Dr. Pollard would like to give a special shout out and thank-you to Kirty Reddy, a community development liaison who worked tirelessly with our Design Shop to create the newsletter. This newsletter is going to be distributed to our community and talk about all the wonderful things that we're doing here at the College.
Dr. Pollard would like to offer support and encouragement to the members of the Classified Staff who are interested in serving in leadership capacities. We're looking at strategies to improve and enhance participation. President Ziegler will be working with Classified Staff to do this and are looking to send a team to the Classified Leadership Institute which will take place during the summer.
Congratulations to Neal Ely, the MSEPS faculty, M&O, IT and Security for work on the middle school Science Bowl last week. We hosted 250 students on campus from 24 schools, along with their parents and teachers in conjunction with Sandia Labs. This event was truly successful.
Congratulations to our Talk Hawks. They travelled to a conference for the Northern California Forensics Spring Championship Tournament where they became the No. 1 speech team in the Northern California region. Dr. Pollard is so proud of the students and the work
Congratulations to Visual Communications student Ana Vailati who won a Statewide contest. She designed the seal for the city of Kingsburg and they are looking towards a fall reveal of that logo.
I hope you enjoyed this information, and look forward to seeing you across the campus.
