Noncredit Horticulture
The Horticulture Department at Las Positas College offers short-term, tuition-free, noncredit courses and a skills program designed to provide students both educational and vocational opportunities. A certificate will not only validate participation in the program, but it will also enhance the opportunities to secure gainful entry-level employment. The program is open to all and specifically designed for students that have difficulty in a traditional classroom setting.

NHRT 201 - Fundamentals of Horticulture

This is an eight week short-term vocational horticulture course with lessons and lab activities are designed for students that have difficulty in a traditional classroom setting. Students will learn basic horticultural skills used in landscape, nursery, organic garden, and greenhouse settings. Safety training will be incorporated throughout the course. 32 hours.

NHRT 202 - Landscape and Garden Maintenance

This is an eight week short-term vocational horticulture course with lessons and lab activities are designed for students that have difficulty in a traditional classroom setting. Students will demonstrate basic skills and safety procedures used in lawn maintenance, tree and shrub pruning, basic irrigation repair, and organic weed control strategies. 32 hours.
