Fire Prevention Certificate of Achievement (CA)

About the Program

This certificate of achievement provides fundamental information regarding the history and philosophy of fire prevention and the organization and operation of a fire prevention bureau. Students will examine the use of codes, the identificationand correction of fire hazards, the components of detection and suppression systems, and the relationship of fire prevention with fire safety education. Please note than in order for the student to be certified by state fire training as a FIRE inspector the following courses along with educational experience is needed:http://osfm.fire.ca.gov/training/FireInspector_I

Career Opportunities

Recipients of the Las Positas College Certificate of Achievement in Fire Prevention will be eligible to apply for positions as firefighter, firefighter/EMT, Seasonal Firefighter , Reserve Firefighter, Student Firefighter or Fire Aide and some Fire Prevention bureaus that do not require SFT fire inspector1 certification but do require college work in Fire Service Technology with an emphasis on Fire Prevention.

Program Outcomes

  • Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Fire Prevention, students are able to explain the difference between fire codes and building codes and how they apply to different municipalities.
  • Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Fire Prevention, students are able to use and demonstrate how to properly conduct a fire inspection.
  • Upon completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Fire Prevention, students, given field observations, are able to recognize hazardous conditions involving equipment, processes, and operations in order to verify that equipment is maintained, and processes and operations are conducted in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
