Study Abroad with Your Fellow Students in Spain!

Did you know that you can earn credits towards your degree and take care of GE requirements by studying in another country with LPC faculty and students? Studies show that study abroad is associated with higher graduation rates, improved intercultural skills, and personal growth--all of which are valuable to you, to college admissions officers, and to future employers! How to Afford Study Abroad

Next Steps:

  • Contact Dr. Eagan or Dr. Wing Brooks
  • Make an appointment with a counselor soon so that you can work the courses into your Student Educational Plan.
  • Contact LPC Financial Aid (and fill out the FAFSA if you have not already) so that you can learn more about using financial aid and federal Pell Grant funds to study abroad. Review the slide show and the links below for scholarships you can apply for! NOTE: Basic Needs funding might also be available for some trip expenses--details will be provided at our informational session.

Informational session: Monday, Sept. 22, at 6 pm on Zoom

Sample Scholarships and Grants:

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (U.S. State Department)

This will open in mid-August and is due October 3.

Gilman McCain Scholarship (U.S. State Department)

This provides funding for study abroad for child and spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel during the time of application. Deadline: October 3, 2025.

Umoja International Student Fellowship Program

The fellowship program strives to build a global consciousness by exposing Umoja students to the African diaspora and helping them become aware of their place in that experience. While this trip does not go to Africa, it spends time on literature and art created by people from the African diaspora and examines how Spanish identity has been created in dialogue with North Africa in particular.

To be eligible for the fellowship, one must be in the Umoja program (tell a friend?) and complete the Umoja Sankofa Service Project:

  • Complete a post-study abroad survey
  • Record 10 videos abroad of yourself and your experience.
  • Complete a presentation at an approved venue

Applications are usually due in January.

Fund for Education Abroad

The application for summer trips is set to launch in November and will be due in early February. The FEA has a webinar, writing tips for the application, and an explanation of how to fill out the financial aid form.

Diverse International Women of Color

Likely April deadline. Diverse International Women of Color’s mission is to inspire, encourage and promote opportunities for women of color to travel abroad, experience different cultures and broaden their horizons beyond the United States.

Pell Grants

Since this study abroad experience will provide you with 6 units, students on federal Pell Grants would be considered full time and be eligible to use this funding. Speak to a LPC financial aid counselor as recommended above.
