CalWORKS

The California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program assists low-income parents with children under 18 by providing cash aid along with providing additional funds/resources to achieve their educational goals, as well as support towards success in the workforce. Eligible families who qualify for ongoing assistance through the CalWORKs program will receive money each month to help pay for housing, food, and other necessary expenses. In order to receive these benefits, participants must participate in approved activities that will lead to a job or a career. The amount of money received is based on several factors that are determined by the county you are working with and the county worker you are assigned to for eligibility purposes. Participants have chosen to complete all or some of their thirty-five hours of required participation by receiving education and training at Las Positas.

The College has staff dedicated to helping CalWORKS students succeed. They can assist you in meeting your required hours, help you with paperwork, coordinate with your county worker, and help you in your journey to academic success. Benefits of the program range from child care services, additional school supplies and overall program support. The CalWORKS Department coordinates with the Career Center for job opportunities as well.
