Aishani Gupta: Balancing Passion and Professional Growth

From mathematical proofs to analyses of French films, Aishani Gupta has leveraged her Honors projects to explore her curiosities in a wide range of subjects.

As a math major, the Honors Program not only allowed her to explore quantitative subjects but also strengthened her time management skills. Navigating a demanding workload, working on her Honors coursework gave her the opportunity to learn how to balance multiple responsibilities during her time at Las Positas. Aishani shares, “Through the program, I discovered my passion for research, which has since become a central focus of my academic journey.”

One of the highlights of her experience at Las Positas College was a research project on exoplanets and machine learning, which allowed her to learn data science alongside her mentor. “This project deepened my technical skills and became a valuable addition to my resume,” she said.

The project ultimately helped her secure an internship at UCSF, where she was able to use the skills she developed during the project. Her efforts have since opened the door to further research positions.

Aishani is currently working on an Honors project focusing on mathematical proofs and academic writing, preparing her for upper-division coursework once she transfers to university. Besides using her prowess in math, Aishani has taken the opportunity to explore courses in other fields. Namely, the Honors Program allowed her to deepen her appreciation for film studies, by completing a project on the analysis of French films. She hopes to continue pursuing and nurturing this interest.

“I can further develop my hobby while continuing to grow academically and professionally,” Aishani said. 

The Honors Program is not just a pathway to simply and mechanically finish five honors courses and transfer to a college, but is an immersive opportunity she has used to exponentiate her skills and experience in every way possible.
