What is the Puente  MÁS Project?

The Puente project is a learning community with the goal of increasing the transfer-going rate of educationally disadvantaged students.

The Puente Math & Sciences known as Puente MÁS model is composed of four integrated joint components:

• English and Library Research
• Math
• Counseling
• Mentoring

The program at Las Positas College provides a dedicated counselor to students participating in the program, teaches academic and real-world writing and research skills in support of students' goals, incorporates literature that is relevant to students' lives and experiences and which models diverse writing and research styles and methods and guides students’ writing process to prepare them for 4-year university-level work.

Puente students also receive addional support in the required transfer level math courses to make sure all necessary resources are avaialable to students to succeed.   

Lastly, all Puente students are assigned community professionals as mentors providing an additional layer of support.

Supplementary activities such as family nights, mentor mixer, college tours, and four-year college representative visits, round out a program designed to prepare students for transfer to a four-year institution and degree attainment.

Puente is open to students of all backgrounds.
