Steps to Success

NextUp eligible students first need to access all the benefits they are eligible to receive. The information below define the most important first steps to get started at Las Positas College.

Getting Started

Create your account if you have not already applied to Las Positas College

  • Your application should be processed within 1-2 business days. 
  • Check your email for application updates and more

You should get an email after you apply that has your W number of W ID. Make sure to save or memorize your student ID number.

  • You have to use your W number of W ID to sign into your student account and conduct all Las Positas College activities. 
  • Student Id format - W12345678

Your school email account, called Zonemail, is where you will receive all important communication and tasks including financial aid alerts, registration dates and deadlines. and all other important college updates related to your school activity. 

MyPortal is your own personalized dashboard for all things Las Positas College. It will contain all your academic and financial aid information. You will need to access your MyPortal account for various reasons, including, but not limited to:

  • enrolling, adding, or dropping classes
  • verifying financial aid packaging
  • accessing your student education plan (SEP) 
 
Apply to the NextUp Program

Submitting the NextUp program application will determine if you may be eligible for any one of the programs offered within the NextUp office suite. We will determine eligibility for the following programs offered at Las Positas College - 

  • EOPS
  • CARE
  • CalWORKs
  • NextUp

You do not have to participate in any of the programs if you do not want to, but if your are determined to be eligible, these programs would provide additional services that many of our Las Positas College students do not have access to. We recommend utilizing these programs and services while you are attending Las Positas College.

Verification documentation that shows proof of foster placement at any point since age 13 up to age 25. For more information, go to the eligibility section to determine what types of verification documentation are acceptable. 
 
Access Financial Aid

There are several forms of financial aid, scholarships and other resources current and former foster youth can access. Go to the financial aid section of our NextUp website to learn about the types of financial aid available for current and former foster youth.

IMPORTANT: It is important that you submit a financial aid application to help support your living expenses while you are enrolled.
