There are several forms of financial aid available for current or former foster youth. The information below provides a quick guide showing the types of financial aid current and former foster youth could be eligible to receive while attending Las Positas College.

Important First Steps
- Make sure to complete a FAFSA or CADAA application
- Go to the Apply for FInancial Aid section on the Las Positas College Financial Aid website to begin the process.
- Webgrants Alert!
- Signing up for a webgrants account has two benefits for foster youth -
- It provides students with the resources, information and tools needed to assist with the college financial aid process.
- It will allow you to manage your Cal Grant and/or Chafee account(s) online by letting you view updates, make school changes, make address changes, and post leave of absence requests.

Note: your webgrants (WG4S) account does not replace your School or FAFSA accounts. Each account must be monitored and managed independently.
Types of Financial Aid
Type | Benefits & Eligibility |

Federal Pell Grant |
Up to $7,395 per academic year plus an additional $3,447 if enrolled during the summer. Apply as soon as possible between December of the year before starting college and the last day of classes of the academic year. Students can apply even after starting college classes Eligibility

Cal Grant |
Up to full tuition at a UC or CSU or $9,220 at a private institution. Foster youth in care after age 13 or students with dependents can get an additional $6,000 per year for nontuition costs like rent and books. Low-income students can receive up to $1,648 for these costs.

Chafee Grant (for eligible foster youth) |
Up to $5,000 per year for up to five years, which do not have to be consecutive years.

California College Promise Grant |
Waives the enrollment fees for classes at California Community Colleges

Student Success Completion Grant |
For non-foster youth attending a California Community College, $1,298 per semester if enrolled in 12-14 units and $4,000 per semester if enrolled in 15 units. For eligible foster youth, $5,250 per semester if enrolled in 12 or more units.
Eligibility Students must be enrolled in 12 or more units, receive the Cal Grant B or C, and be California residents or CA Dream Act eligible. To receive additional foster youth funding, must be in foster care at least one day after age 13. |
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) |
Ranges from $100 to $4,000 per year depending on financial need and funding availability

Middle Class Scholarship (MCS) |
Award amounts will vary by student and by school. Students with a remaining unmet need that is over $7,898 will be offered the award. Students may receive an MCS in addition to a Cal Grant.
