AB 656
Fair Share for Fair Tuition
Assembly Bill 656, written by Assembly Member Alberto Terrico. The bill will establish a severance tax of 12.5% on oil drilled in California. All of the money brought in from this bill will be given to the three venues of California higher education. 25% of the revenue would go to California Community Colleges, 25% to California State Universities, and 50% to the University of California system. This bill has passed in the Assembly 41-28. The bill is currently in the California Senate. The Student Senate for California Community Colleges has approved a resolution in support of AB 656. This bill is commonly referred to Fair Share for Fair Tuition.
