Child Development Permit Matrix

The California Child Development Permit is issued through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  At present, this permit is required of employees of Early Childhood programs licensed under Title V.  The permit enables a student to move along a career ladder which supports a hierarchy of professional goals and competencies relative to employment and leadership.
 
 
Permit Education Requirement (Note: You must have a grade of "C" or better verified by official transcript) Experience Requirement
Assistant Teacher 6 units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD) None
Associate Teacher 12 units of ECE/CD including core courses* 50 days of 3 or more hours per day within 2 years
Teacher 24 units ECE/CD including core courses* plus 16 general education (GE) units** 175 days of 3 or more hours per day within 4 years
Master Teacher 24 units ECE/CD including core courses* plus 16 GE units ** plus 6 units in an area of specialization plus 2 units adult supervision  350 days of 3 or more hours per day within 4 years 
 
Site Supervisor AA (or 60 units) with 24 ECE/CD including core courses* plus 6 units administration plus 2 units adult supervision 350 days of 3 or more hours per day within 4 years including at least 100 days supervising adults
Program Director BA with including core courses* plus 6 units administration plus 2 units adult supervision Site supervisor status and one program year of adult supervision experience
*   core courses = Child Growth & Development; Child/Family/Community; and Program/curriculum

** one course in each of four general education categories required:  English; social science, humanities,
      math or science

NOTE:  Each level of the permit requires a 5 year renewal of 105 hours of professional growth
