Chris Ebbers, Ph.D.
B.A. Physics, Northwestern University
Ph.D. Applied Science, UC Davis
Subject Taught: Laser Technology
Dr. Ebbers chose Physics as a major because he "liked the challenge. While other sciences work with known, tangible materials, with physics it's all about working with the unknown." For his PhD project he worked on a project studying crystals for Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL). "They kept offering me new opportunities, so I stayed on."
While at LLNL, he frequently hired and trained new laser technicians. He found he "had a knack for mentoring and training" and enjoyed being a part of people's personal development. He happened upon an ad in the paper that LPC was looking for Laser Technology instructors and has been teaching here part-time for 4 years.
While not teaching at LPC, Dr. Ebbers is currently working on the Mercury Laser Project at LLNL. This project is exciting because it will be the next generation of power plants - providing clean energy using lasers instead of fossil fuels.
