Succeeding in an Online Course

Research Effectively and Efficiently

The LPC Library web site is a great place to start your research efforts. As an online student, you have access to the same resources that face-to-face students access. Those resources include a wealth of information on how to research, where to research, and what to research.

Some of the resources, such as the catalog and databases, are also available on mobile apps that you can use while on the go.

Specifically, click the following links to get more information:

  • Library Home Page. Among the popular links on this page are those for online databases and Web search engines. To log into any of the databases from off-campus, use the following format:

Your ID is your User Identification (W) Number. Your password is the same as it is for Blackboard, which is the first two letters of your first name, the first two letters of your last name followed by the last four digits of your W number (ex. josm8999 for John Smith with W00008999). If you are on-campus, no ID or password is required.
  • Library Catalog. Using the Library Catalog, you can search for LPC or Chabot Library materials, place a hold on materials, renew materials, check your library records, search for instructor reserves, and search for the titles of the periodicals LPC Library owns.
  • Students: Here you'll find information on how to write research and term papers and how to properly cite your sources. You'll also find library guides for specific courses that were prepared by LPC librarians. You can even use this page to ask questions of the librarians regarding your research needs.
  • About the Library: Just as the title implies, this page contains descriptions, policies, and other information about the library.

Which of the following LPC Library pages will give you information about plagiarism?

The LPC librarians are available should you need assistance using the online databases or guidance on your research assignments. They can be reached by email at

The library's Reference Desk number is 925.424.1150, and the Circulation Desk (Check-out Desk) number is 925.424.1151.
