Succeeding in an Online Course

Web Browser

Mozilla Firefox is the preferred browser for Blackboard, whether you use a Windows computer or a Mac. For both Windows and Mac users, it's best that you have multiple browsers installed; in case something doesn't work quite well in one browser, you can try another.

It is recommended that you also download, and install, the Chrome browser. As you know, Windows computers already come with Internet Explorer installed, and Macs come with Safari installed.

Blackboard requires that cookies be enabled in your browser. Cookies are small text files that are stored in your computer and contain information from web sites, such as your preferences when visiting those sites.

To enable cookies in Firefox:

  1. From the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click Privacy.
  3. Under History, choose Use Custom Settings for History in the drop-down next to Firefox will. Make sure Accept Cookies from Sites is checked. Click OK.
