Associated Students of Las Positas College

Becoming a Senator or Representative

Senators are an important part of the Associated Students of Las Positas College. Being a part of student government will enhance your college experience by awarding you the opportunity to represent students on the local, state, and federal level. You will also get to put on exciting events that improve student life. Senators have important responsibilities, such as communicating with other students on a regular basis in order to be able to address students’ concerns, attending weekly meetings, sitting on campus-wide committees, attending workshops to improve skills and gain knowledge relevant to student government, recruit new members, attend retreats and conferences, and help out with events. For more information on how to become a senator, please review the senator packet.

For students who are unable to attend meetings and workshops on Fridays, the position of a representative is available for one semester. Representatives have the same responsibilities as senators, except that they do not have to attend the meetings because they are non-voting members. For more information, please review the senator packet (Senator Packet Spring 2008)

Any student interested in becoming a senator or representative must meet all requirements (listed in the senator packet) and submit a completed packet to the ASLPC office in room 1709. Senators and representatives may join ASLPC at any point in the semester. We look forward to seeing you!

Interested students may earn credit for service in student government by enrolling in optional leadership classes.
