Las Positas College is proud to be designated a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) by the United States Department of Education. Our mission is to expand educational opportunities and improve the academic attainment of Hispanic and low-income students.

The Gateway to Success Program

Las Positas College "HSI Gateway to Success (G2S)" Program is designed to increase completion and transfer rates of high-need students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.

The Gateway to Success Program utilizes a cohort (community of 30 students each year) learning model to provide additional services and resources to students in the program.

• Interested in a STEM-based field
• The HSI program is designed to primarily support Hispanic students. In addition, we encourage low-income, first-generation students to apply.

The HSI - G2S Experience

Attend the Flight of the Hawk Orientation Session

• Flight of the Hawk is our orientation for new students who are ADMITTED in our HSI Gateway to Success program. The Orientation, is a one-day workshop that helps students discover more about LPC Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) courses and majors, their new campus, learn about resources for academic and personal success, and become acquainted with faculty and staff. Learn from current students personal experiences, find out about college academic requirements, and get assistance from Counselors on selecting course options for the first semester.

Fall semester:

• Enroll in for Math Jam (guaranteed enrollment)Math Jam is an award-winning, intensive one-week math program offered the week prior to the start of the Fall and Spring semesters, in August and in January
• Enroll in the PSCN 30 – Student Success & The College Experience Course
• PSCN 30 - Student Success & The College Experience 3 Unit Course
  This course explores concepts, knowledge, and skills relevant to college success. Students will engage in critical analysis on a variety of topics, including motivation, decision-making, interpersonal communication, multicultural awareness, and learning theory. Problem solving strategies will be applied to areas including goal setting, career development, wellness, and accessing campus resources.

Spring Semester:

• Enroll in for Math Jam (guaranteed enrollment)
