English as a Second Language

ESL at Las Positas College

Las Positas College has a comprehensive ESL Program which includes six levels of instruction: two semesters of beginning, two semesters of intermediate and two semesters of advanced courses. The program focuses on academic language skills: reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication. To complement the instructional program, the College provides assessment, counseling, orientation and special support services, such as free tutoring for all ESL and International students.

A Quality Education

All students at Las Positas College enjoy a rich intellectual life. Students will find university-quality education combined with the individualized attention, accessibility, and low cost that only a small college like Las Positas College can offer. Our transfer courses parallel the freshman and sophomore courses offered at the University of California and California State University. In addition to the transfer programs, Las Positas offers a full array of vocational and certificate programs designed for direct job entry. Students will have the opportunity to study with excellent instructors in a variety of college courses. Most of our faculty members hold advanced degrees; many hold a Ph.D. Additionally, many of our faculty members have traveled extensively; others have hosted international students through a variety of home-stay programs.

Students will find a welcoming environment with many opportunities to meet students and faculty while improving their English skills.

Social and Cultural Opportunities

Las Positas College offers opportunities to participate in student government, performing art events, and faculty sponsored clubs. Field trips to museums, historic sites, festivals, celebrations, and musical and theatrical performances provide exciting social and cultural experiences for students.
