A Certificate Program in Piano Teaching

A Two-Level Certificate Program is available for those who may need preparation in the teaching of beginning piano students as well as for experienced piano teachers desiring refresher work in their profession.

It is a practical course of study in the development of teaching skills, knowledge of music theory and an introduction to the business of private teaching, including choices of materials, setting up a studio, technology and other areas.


Beginning Piano Pedagogy

A Certificate of Completion in Teaching Beginning Piano will be granted upon completion of 14 required units with a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

Intermediate Piano Pedagogy

A second certificate in Teaching Intermediate Piano will be granted upon completion of 16 required units with a minimum grade point of 2.0.

MUS 38 Applied Music (2 semesters)

A student who so desires may enroll for the Certificate program and at the same time accumulate credit hours toward the Associate in Arts degree in music at Las Positas College. The AA degree requires a total of 60 units.

The accumulation of credit hours toward the Certificate of Completion in Piano Pedagogy should assist the piano teacher in meeting requirements for active teacher status in teh Music Teachers' Association of California.
