Elections and Voting

An officer can only be in office for no more than three semesters without holding an election. Elections must be held on the first meeting of the spring or fall semester. Each semester The club members must vote on whether or not to have elections for that semester. Any and all persons who sign up for services at the Disabled Students Programs and Services must have the opportunity to vote in an election, even if they do not choose to become a member or officer. This is due to the fact that all students are being represented through this Access Club.

Holding an Election: If the president is present he/she will open the election. If not the duty falls on the staff advisor. If the staff advisor cannot attend, another officer may open elections. Whoever opens elections is not allowed to preside if nominated for the position at hand. If he/she is elected they may resume. No one person who is elected for a position may preside over the elections. Elections always begin with the highest position available. The position must be stated and if at that time, information of that positions job description is requested, it must be provided and understood before elections may continue. An election committee may nominate a person to fulfill each and any position available. Any and all members may nominate any member present. Nominations must open with the question "are there any nominations". After someone is nominated they must be asked whether they accept that nomination. If they do they are entered into the running. After which the question "are there any other nominations" must be asked and if answered asked again. If uninterrupted it must be asked twice more to insure that no other nominations will be submitted, After which all nominations for that position will be closed.

Runners up must be eliminated down to two at the first vote of the majority. One of the two remaining candidates must also be eliminated by majority vote. If in the event of a tie, the staff advisor must break the tie. The process is repeated for each position available until all positions are met.

If in the event only one person is nominated a motion must be made. That motion must state that nominations seize and (person's name) be elected by acclamation. This motion may not be given by whoever is facilitating nominations. A second person from the floor must then second the motion. After which the club, in its entirety, must vote on the motion.
