Las Positas College and Chabot students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to use the Library and to borrow its circulating items upon presentation of their College ID card with the current registration sticker on the back. Students, faculty and staff may get the LPC college I.D. at the Admissions Office. If your address changes during your attendance at LPC, please inform library circulation staff.
The LPC Library High School Student Use Policy is spelled out in these pages.
Any member of an Advisory Committee may request a library card for check out privileges from the Las Positas College Library. Faculty Staff privileges will be extended to these people.
Members of the community are welcome to use the resources in
the Library, but may not check out books, CDs, DVDs, or other
materials. Photocopiers are available for copying short articles
or chapters (10 cents a page).
Members of the community may use the Information Commons computers for research
only. Because the Information Commons is designed for LPC students, a librarian
must help community members get past the initial screen to get to the catalog
and databases. There is a fee for printing from any computer. A PRINT CARD
can be purchased from the card dispenser in the Library.
Once you have found the materials that you want, take your selection to the Checkout Counter. Give them and your library card to the desk attendant, who will check the materials out to you for a two-week period. You may renew at the end of the two-week period twice for a total of six weeks in all.
You must request videos, cassette tapes and compact discs at the Check-Out Desk by call number. They are shelved behind the Check-Out Desk. You may check out videos, DVDs, cassette tapes, and compact discs for one week. Follow the procedure used for books.
Ask for a Newton Collection Reserve Slip at the Check-Out Desk. Use the online catalog or Newton Collection Bibliography to choose which items you wish to use. Read and sign the Reserve Slip, then fill in the titles and call numbers of the items you wish to use. Take the Reserve Slip to the Checkout Counter. The staff will unlock the case to get the book(s) for you. The library staff member will ask for a photo I.D. (with an address, but not a credit card) to place in the Reserve Slip while you use the materials. You may check out a maximum of three books at a time for library use only. The material will be due at the time of Library closing.
You may request Chabot materials at the Check-Out Desk or online. The materials will be sent to LPC Library and held for you at the Check-Out Desk for you to check out. Chabot deliveries come to LPC on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You may also go to the Chabot College Library and use your Las Positas College Library Card there.
Students, faculty and staff may have a maximum of ten (10) items (including any combination of books, videos, CDs, or DVDs) checked out at one time. In addition, they may have five (5) print periodicals and five (5) course reserve items checked out at the same time. Faculty may also check out a maximum of forty (40) slides at any given time.

Overdue notices are issued as a courtesy to all library users. However, non-receipt of an overdue notice does not exempt a borrower from applicable fines or billings. To avoid overdue notices, fines, and bills please renew your materials before the due date stamped in each item
Fines should be paid at the Check-Out Desk, Building 2000, Learning Resources Building. If you have questions about an overdue notice, contact the library. If you have a question about a bill, consult the Library staff the Check-Out Desk or call them at 925.424.1151. Outstanding library charges in excess of $5.00 will automatically block your borrowing privileges; if you are a student, outstanding library bills may also prevent your registration for classes, your graduation, or requests for transcripts. Please pay your library bills promptly.
Students, faculty, and staff may check out library resources (books, periodicals, audiovisual materials) during the summer and winter break. For students, proof of enrollment in the current or upcoming semester is required. All regular loan periods and overdue fines apply.
Borrowers may return LPC and Chabot library materials to the LPC Check-Out Desk regardless of where the item was originally charged out. Because library materials are discharged from the borrower's account at the location to which they are returned and prior to being shipped back to the owning library, borrowers are not held responsible for items that are lost in shipping. Library materials can also be returned to the bookdrops on the Campus. Return receipts are available upon request at any circulation desk.
