As part of our LPC Strong Workforce Program and a Regional Joint Venture with other community colleges in the Bay Area, LPC will host a campus meeting later this month to discuss the feasibility of creating a space where students can come together to build, create, imagine, explore, collaborate, learn, share and make things for use in classes of all types.
The California Community College is behind this effort and encouraging campuses to explore the opportunities.
Many campuses that create these spaces find that they tend to be the third most popular place on campus behind the library and the gymnasium. These spaces are a great way to add a hands on aspect to nearly every class we teach. These spaces are a great place for students to go learn or share a hobby, skill or craft they may already have an interest in. Student to student learning is one of the aspects unique to these areas, as students interact and create, they observe others and learn new skills and abilities rapidly. We are also trying to infuse entrepreneurship into courses and campus activities as well.
