Music
Tim Devine is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and has played music professionally for the past 30 years. He has performed extensively throughout the Bay Area, North America, Europe and Australia and is well versed in many musical styles including: big band, small-group jazz, musical theater, salsa, blues, rock/pop, and R&B. This multi-instrumentalist (alto, tenor, soprano saxes, clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, and piccolo) has performed and recorded with legendary jazz, blues, rock and pop stars such as: Joe Williams, B.B. King (Grammy Award 1993), Diana Krall, Louie Bellson, Cedar Walton, Ray Charles, Liza Minnelli, Isaac Hayes, Kenny Loggins, Bernadette Peters, and Manhattan Transfer. Recent recordings include: Time Remembered: Compositions of Bill Evans (The Jim Norton Collective on Origin Records 2014), Viva Velarde! (re-issued by BAJA Records 2011) and Presto (animated short film by Pixar). He is also very active in musical theater, playing for pre-Broadway, world premiers of: Soft Power (music and lyrics by Jeanine Tesori, story and lyrics by David Henry Hwang), Beautiful (featuring the music of Carole King), Lestat (featuring the music of Sir Elton John), The Mambo Kings, and Lennon along with other national tours (including: Alladin, Billy Elliot, In The Heights, Young Frankenstien, Dreamgirls, West Side Story, Shrek-The Musical, The Color Purple, Avenue Q, Chicago, and Hairspray) and local cabaret shows (Teatro Zinzanni and The Razz Room). Mr. Devine received his master’s degree from Washington State University (Pullman, WA) and has remained active in education. He is currently an instructor at The College of San Mateo (San Mateo, CA) and Las Positas College (Livermore, CA) teaching Jazz in American Culture, American Cultures in Music, Music Fundamentals, and Music Appreciation.
