Canvas training

During Fall 2016, LPC began the faculty training process for Canvas. The first trainings took place Oct. 13-14 in the Teaching and Learning Center and focused on the Canvas tools that will help make fully online courses and Distance Education hybrid courses (delivered 51% or more online) successful. On Oct. 17, LPC also gave access to instructors to receive hands-on training via webinars. Those webinars, which focused on Canvas fundamentals, were for those who teach only web-enhanced courses (face-to-face courses supplemented with Canvas) or non-DE hybrid courses (delivered 51% or more on campus).

Additional on-campus trainings will be announced at a later date. Webinar training has been extended to all LPC instructors, and it will be available until Sept. 14, 2017.

Along with training comes access to the CLPCCD Canvas site. Instructors have been set up with their own sandbox courses, in which they can build content, test tools, etc.

All LPC instructors also gain access to the Intro to Canvas-LPC self-paced course, which is intended for those teaching web-enhanced courses but can also be used by everyone teaching in Canvas. This course contains a module on legal requirements, namely how to make content accessible to students with disabilities and Copyright law. Like all training, the Intro to Canvas-LPC course is optional.
