Online Tutoring
Las Positas College offers online tutoring in Writing to ALL students, whether your class is online or on campus. So if you need assistance with an essay or research paper in English, Psychology, Sociology, or any other course, our online Writing tutor can help you.
Online tutoring for Math is available to online or on-campus students in the following courses: Math 20, 38, 42A, 42B, 44, 45, 55, 55A, 55B, 55X, 55Y, 65, 65A, 65B, 65X, 65Y, 107, 107X, and 107Y. We hope to expand online tutoring to other areas in the future.
Both Writing and Math tutoring are offered live over the Internet and asynchronously (delayed) by email. Choose whichever method works best for you!
Live, virtual tutoring - Spring 2013
Writing: Mondays 2:30-4:30 p.m.
Math: Wednesdays 4-6 p.m.
Live, virtual tutoring is by appointment or "virtual walk-in" and will take place in CCC Confer, a secure webconferencing system on the Internet powered by Blackboard Collaborate. With CCC Confer, you and your tutor can see what is on each other's screen, and you can simultaneously speak either on the telephone with a toll-free call or via the microphone on your computer.
Tutoring will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
NOTE: Tutoring for Statistics classes (Math 42A, 42B, 44) will be done asynchronously only. See below for details.
Asynchronous (delayed) tutoring by email
Math
Email your Math questions in the body of an email or as an attachment to LPCTutoring@laspositascollege.edu. You must submit your name and W number in the subject heading of the email. Be sure to include the name and section number of your course in the body of the email (at the top).
Reading and Writing (Ask an English Tutor)
Email your questions and/or paper as an attachment to LPCEnglishtutor@gmail.com. You must submit your name and W number in the subject heading of the email and the course name and section number in the body. You should describe or attach the assignment instructions and ask the tutor specific questions in the body of your email. Submissions will be reviewed within 48 hours if submitted Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. If you submit a question Thursday through Sunday, expect a reply by Tuesday night. Tutors will provide feedback on papers, but will not edit papers for you.
Using CCC Confer
To use CCC Confer,
- Dial your telephone conference line: 1-888-450-4821
- At the prompt, enter the passcode that tutor emailed to you, then press the pound sign (#) on your phone.
- On your computer, go to the Confer site using the web address emailed to you from LPC Tutoring.
- On the Blackboard Collaborate Login screen, type your first and last name, then click Log in.
- If you are asked to Open or Save files, choose Open. If a yellow security bar shows at the top of the browser screen, click it, then choose Download File. If a security dialog box appears, asking you to run the application, click Run. CCC Confer will now launch.
Prior to your appointment, make sure your computer is ready for a CCC Confer meeting. Test your computer's readiness.
When logged in, press *0 to contact the operator for any assistance needed with the audio.
