Tuition Assistance Information

Military Tuition Assistance is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Congress has given each service the ability to pay up to 100% for the tuition expenses of its members.

Each service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application process' and restrictions. This money is usually paid directly to the institution by the individual services.

If you plan on utilizing TA, please contact your Education Service Officer about your TA eligibility and process to receive TA, before enrolling for classes at Las Positas College.

TA is not a loan; it should be viewed as money earned just like base pay.

Check out our detailed pages explaining the program regulations for each service:  (Websites from the various branches of services)

LAS POSITAS COLLEGE MILITARY TUITION ASSISTANCE (TA) REFUND POLICY:

Military Tuition Assistance is a benefit paid to the school for eligible military student recipients who are active members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard.
The student is awarded the TA benefit with the understanding that the student will attend the entire semester. Las Positas College is required to calculate Military Tuition Assistance (TA) earned when a military student using TA withdraws. As participants in the Department of Defense (DoD) Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Las Positas College is required to return the unearned portion of the TA funds to the military service that provided the TA funding.

Las Positas College will calculate the amount of unearned Tuition Assistance funds using the official date when the student submits a withdrawal. The last date of enrolled is used to determine the number of days completed. Las Positas College refund policy for Tuition Assistance follows the same guidelines for students who do not receive Tuition Assistance.
A student who withdraws for reasons other than those outlined above within the first 60% of the period for which funds were received will have 0% amount of unearned TA funds returned to the student’s DOD branch of service. Refer to individual colleges and DOD branch of service for potential student financial responsibility as a result of withdrawal.
