Institutional Student Learning Outcomes
Las Positas College’s primary mission is to foster learning and student success. Students will have developed cognitive, behavioral, and affective skills in 5 areas upon graduating from Las Positas College. These 5 areas are the Institutional Learning Outcomes (ISLO).
Each of the Institutional Student Learning Outcomes (ISLOs) is evaluated annually by the Institutional Planning and Effectiveness Committee (IPEC). The IPEC reviews the ISLO data and identifies areas of improvement. IPEC communicates that information to the SLO committee and to the campus community at a Town Hall meeting. Suggestions from the campus community and the SLO committee are used to develop an action plan.
Students communicate effectively in many different situations, involving diverse people and viewpoints, when they are able to:
a.) Locate, interpret and analyze various types of written information in prose and indocuments, such as articles, essays, literature, mass communication, manuals, graphs, and schedules.
a.) Communicate thoughts, ideas, information, and messages in writing.
b.) Compose and create documents, such as essays, reports, letters, memorandums, andmanuals, with correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and appropriate language,style, and format.
c.) Use tables, graphs, charts and diagrams to explain concepts or ideas.
d.) Review, revise and edit written work for correct information, appropriate emphasis,form, style, and grammar.
a.) Organize ideas and communicate oral, symbolic and/or artistic messages appropriateto the audience and the situation.
b.) Contribute constructively to conversations, discussions, and group activities.
c.) Receive, interpret, analyze, evaluate and respond appropriately to verbal, visual andsymbolic messages.
d.) Ask questions to clarify the expressed messages of others and to evaluate whethertheir own messages have been clearly received by their audience.
